Meridian Tapping

What is Tapping?

Tapping, Meridian Tapping or Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a form of acupressure combined with self-talk therapy. That means that you apply pressure to different points on your body by tapping while staying focused on a particular problem area that you would like to work on. This effectively tunes your mind into an area of your life that is not working so that you can remove the obstacles.

How does it work?

Your body has subtle electrical energy flowing through it (your iPhone screen responds to the electrical current in your body). Your brain sends and receives electrical impulses to talk to your body. These electrical impulses are happening everytime your brain does anything: sleep; talk; think; feel; walk; etc.

This means that your body has subtle electrical circuits flowing all through it. Tapping stimulates some acupressure points that lie on these circuits, thus affecting the brain an actually relaxing it just like a massage would do.

While we are stimulating the brain, we focus our mind on a particular negative belief that we would like to get rid of. This helps to change the programming of our mind so that we can re-create a new belief in it’s place.

What does negative beliefs have to do with healing myself?

Pyschologists understand that what you believe comes true because you will subconsciously and consciously act in ways that cause your belief to come true.

Your brain sends out neurotransmitters but for every one hundred it sends out it receives back only one. Your negative beliefs tell the neurotransmitters what to look for and these act as filters finding exactly what it wants and returning that. If it is a negative belief such as “I easily catch colds” then the neurotransmitters will be very effective at finding something that fits your belief (e.g. someone who has is sneezing or coughing) and returning these signals to the brain.

Why would changing my negative beliefs affect my physical health or emotional state of mind?

Negative beliefs affect our mindset. If we believe that we are sick then our mind will play that out. Negative beliefs create negative self-talk in our minds. The amazing thing about our mind is that it cannot differentiate between what is real and what is fiction. Hence, why negative self-talk affects badly, it makes us feel bad. But also, why positive self-talk and positive visualisations are so good for us. It makes us feel happier. So our beliefs affect our emotions.

All emotions that we feel manifest in some physical form. When we are happy, we laugh or smile. When we are sad, we cry or frown. When we are angry, our breathing becomes shallow and rapid. When we are excited, our heart beats faster. When we are stressed, our body gets tense. When we feel love, our body breathing is deep and slow. When we are scared, we feel butterflies or nausea, or we feel it in some other part of our body. When we are calm, our breathing is slow.

Belief affects Mind affects Emotions affects Body

This is why, when dealing with any emotional, mental or physical issues, it is important to address what beliefs you hold about that issue. From there, YOU CAN HEAL YOURSELF.
